“No one has spoken to me about it”
Baz Ashmawy has shut down rumours that he will be the new co-presenter of The Late Late Show with Lucy Kennedy.
Ryan Tubridy will leave the show in May and his replacement is still to be revealed.
However, the DIY SOS host has come out and explained that he hasn’t been contacted by anyone at RTÉ about the job for the time being.
He said: “I love Lucy and I don’t know about her, but no one has spoken to me about it. I think it’s just people having a little bit of fun and mixing up the bookies a bit.
“I think people are just very excited at the moment about the Late Late Show. It seems to be the main obsession and I think they’re just throwing everybody’s name into the mix.”
Baz also said it he found it “very sweet” that people threw his name into the bunch of suspected new hosts.
It’s rumoured Claire Byrne, Lottie Ryan, Tommy Tiernan, Doireann Garrihy and more could be in the running for the new role.
Ashmawy said: “There’s loads of really great talent in Ireland and a lot of them are my friends. I think all the people they’re talking about are all really good candidates.
“I love all of them. Claire Byrne, Jennifer Zamparelli, Deirdre O’Kane and there are lots of great lads too.”
Unlike Miriam O’Callaghan, presenter Lucy Kennedy has not addressed the rumours as of yet.
Herself and Baz teamed up once before to host a breakfast radio on RTE so the pair may have the perfect dynamic needed for The Late Late Show.
