Coming 2 America reportedly coming to Prime Video just in time for Christmas

32 years later, the sequel to the hit comedy is finally about to arrive.

Quickly following in the similar footsteps of Pixar’s Soul and the remake of The Witches, it has been announced that Coming 2 America, the sequel to the hit 1988 comedy, will be skipping cinemas entirely and going straight to home streaming.

Variety have reported that Amazon Studios purchased the movie for $125 million from Paramount Pictures, and that insiders have stated it will arrive on Prime Video just in time for Christmas, on Friday, December 18.

Originally due for release in cinemas this December, the movie will see Eddie Murphy reprise his role as Prince Akeem Joffer, who is set to become King of Zamunda when he discovers he has a son he never knew about in America. Honouring his royal father’s (James Earl Jones) dying wish to groom this son as the crown prince, Akeem and his trustful servant Semmi (Arsenio Hall) set off to America once again.

New additions to the cast this time include Wesley Snipes (who recently stole the show from Murphy in Dolemite Is My Name), Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones, and Jermaine Fowler as Joffer Junior.

This marks the second high-profile comedy sequel that Prime Video will be premiering in the next few weeks, as they also recently announced that Borat Subsequent MovieFilm will arrive on their streaming platform just in time for Election Day in the States.
