The Brit Awards are live on Irish TV tonight and the list of performers is impressive

James Fenton

The Brit Awards 2020 take place tonight and Irish viewers will be able to enjoy the whole ceremony live on Virgin Media Three.

The 40th edition of the Brit Awards will be hosted by Jack Whitehall and will be broadcast live from the O2 Arena in London. The ceremony has brought us some memorable moments over the years such as Geri Halliwell wearing a Union Jack dress in 1997 and Jarvis Cocker highjacking Michael Jackson’s performance the year previous to that.

Tonight’s show may not as controversial as that 1996 ceremony but it’s sure to be entertaining if nothing else. The line-up of performers on the night includes some of the biggest names in music at the moment with Stormzy set to take to the stage as well as Harry Styles and Lewis Capaldi. In a list that reads more like a gang of mates at a 21st birthday party, Lizzo, Mabel, Dave and Celeste will also perform.

One of the highlights should be Billie Eilish giving her first live rendition of her new James Bond track No Time To Die, accompanied by her brother Finneas, former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr and legendary composer Hans Zimmer. There will also be a reunion of Faces members Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones.

Moving on to the nominations, Dermot Kennedy will be flying the flag for Ireland in the Best International Male Solo Artist category, fresh off the back of announcing a new Irish show for later this year.

You can catch the 2020 Brit Awards on Virgin Media Three tonight from 8pm.
