The most-streamed song from the John Lewis Christmas ads has been revealed

Sarah Finnan

I think it’s fair to say that the John Lewis Christmas ads are iconic.

Having first aired back in 2007, they’ve garnered quite a fan base. I personally wait all year for them.

While the storyline is always good, it’s usually the music that I’m most excited for.

Previous years have included covers by Ellie Goulding, Tom Odell, Gabrielle Aplin and even Elbow.

This year’s ad features the power ballad I Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore, as sung by Bastille frontman Dan Smith.

Telling the story of Excitable Edgar, it has proven to be a hit so far.

Ranking the songs usually proves to be quite a contentious topic as everyone has their own opinion, but now we have the definitive list.

The report by Broadband Deals, which categorises the songs from most-streamed to least streamed, also reveals how much each artist has made just by featuring.

Lily Allen’s rendition of Somewhere Only We Know came out on top, with 189.6 million plays to date. Ellie Goulding’s cover of Your Song is the second most-streamed John Lewis song.

The 2018 Elton John song doesn’t feature, missing due to the fact that it wasn’t created specifically for the advert and is therefore not a remake of the single.

Confirming that this year’s tune will be available for download this week, I think it’s time to break out the Christmas playlist.
