“Scummy Irish”- Leaked Footage Shows English Rugby Coach Dissing Irish Rugby Team

Darragh Berry

If this doesn’t get the blood boiling for Saturday’s Grand Slam clash against the English, absolutely nothing will.

We all know the scenario at this stage, even if you don’t follow Rugby, beat the English on their home soil and we complete five wins in a row meaning the Grand Slam and Triple Crown is ours.

Happy days.

A win against the English is always extra sweet – no matter what sport it is – and even more so when there is a trophy on the line.

Eddie Jones isn’t the most lovable character in Ireland and after leaked footage emerged showing Jones dissing those who don the green jersey, we doubt those feelings are going to change any time soon.

Speaking at a Fuso Talks back in 2017, Jones was boasting about England’s impressive rugby record which saw them go completely unbeaten in 2016.

At the talk, Jones said that:

“We’ve played 23 tests and only lost one test to the scummy Irish, I’m still dirty about that game. But we’ll get that back (x2) don’t worry, we’ve got them next year at home (2018), we’ll get ’em back (x2), I think we’re playing them in the fourth round of the Six Nations so we’ll get ’em back.

The fact that he’s said, “we’ll get them back” 540 times in the space of 20 seconds shows that this Saturday’s game will be no walk in the park. The English and Jones are still bruised after their defeat to the Irish and will do everything in their power to stop the fairytale ending.

But, you can just imagine that this will shake up the Irish lads (not like they needed an excuse) no end. We’d love if something like this was done in the Irish dressing room ahead of the final Six Nations clash…

In Ireland, as you well know, being called scummy is not exactly something that goes down well. In fact, if someone called you scummy it would make you want to go through them for a shortcut.

But, it seems as though the word could have a different kind of meaning over in Australia, where Jones is from…

Cute little ‘hoor’ is old Eddie Jones isn’t he? Saying that about the Irish.

We’ll all be hoping that he loses a second test to the “scummy Irish” this Saturday again, especially after these comments, it would make the win that extra, extra sweet.

Both Eddie Jones and the English Rugby Union have spoke out following the quote which you can read about here
