The Danish capital is becoming recognised on the global stage for its recent feats in crafting intriguing night life venues – and as elegant bars continue to be set up at ferocious rate to keep up with demand, we’ve made a handy list of some of the shining lights of this cocktail revolution!
10. Lidkoeb
Situated in one of the oldest buildings in the trendy Vesterbro district, Lidkoeb delicately combines old and new décor, with stylish contemporary Danish furniture resting alongside open fires and fur rugs.

9. Science and Cocktails
This is a non-profit project combining public lectures, music/art performances and high-quality cocktails, with scientists and bartenders alike working on voluntary basis. Seasons of lectures are in English and open conversation between lecturers and attendees is de rigueur.

8. Balderdash
While its name may suggest triviality, this elegant and secretive bar provides anything but. Renowned bartender Geoffrey Canialo brings intricate detail to his new project, featuring not only a series of bar rooms, but a gallery, spirits lab and a kitchen used for pop-up restaurants. A great mix of crowds makes this a constantly interesting space.

7. GILT
Having been open for more than a decade, GILT (an acronym for Glass, Ice, Liquor and Topping) boasts perfected cocktail mixes founded on getting the essentials right. That being said, don’t expect an unadventurous menu – GILT is well known for putting intriguing Nordic twists on traditional cocktails.

6. Strøm Bar
Taking its title from the Danish word for “power”, this elegant bar situated in the heart of Copenhagen has indeed powered to the fore of the local scene by offering a combination of unbeatable location and intimate setting. The cocktail menu changes every three months and all ingredients are homemade, ensuring a consistently intriguing and awesome tasting range of fresh cocktails throughout the year.

5. Balthazar Champagne Bar
After an ambitious revamp in 2013, the Hotel d’Angleterre’s adjoining bar, Balthazar, has been making serious waves ever since. Expect devoted attention to all aspects of the fine drinking experience, including a walk-in wine room, exquisite open surroundings and an energetic bar front.

4. The Barking Dog
Calling itself “a cocktail pub”, The Barking Dog aims for a sociable atmosphere where patrons can relax and chat freely. It also prides itself on its swift service too. Ideal for a low-key date or a few quiet ones with mates.

3. Salon 39
Salon 39 is a rare mix… of traditional cocktails and meatier treats. Vegetarians beware – house specialities like The Spotted Pig contains a tequila and bacon twist and the Ox Blood in made with Ox Bouillon.

2. Ruby
Although this bar is hidden behind an unmarked door, it remains one of Copenhagen’s worst-kept secrets, and for good reason. A series of cosy, unravelling rooms combined with a highly-knowledgeable staff ensures the popularity of this establishment. This one is known for filling up early on in the evening, so be best advised to show up early.

1105 is undeniably chic. Presented in a style with plenty of nods to classic London splendour, this bar has established itself in the minds and hearts of Copenhagen’s cocktail lovers by delivering a truly refined experience. It caters mostly to 30s crowd, and, while more expensive than others on this list, is an essential Copenhagen venue.
