Return from your break feeling refreshed with these relaxation destinations.

Life can be so hectic and summer is no exception. From ticking errands off our list to working through an overflowing inbox, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed at times. However, one way you can slow it down and embrace a slower pace is by booking a short break in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands.

Indeed, there’s no shortage of wellness attractions in this region, so pop on your Out Of Office and take a moment to relax and reset. On your next getaway, chill out in a hot tub as you gently cruise along Lough Ree, take a seaweed bath in Leitrim’s woodlands and soak up nature’s tranquility on a yoga walk in Tipperary.

With so many wellness activities waiting for you in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, it can be hard to know where to start. Thankfully, we’ve pin-pointed some of our favourite relaxation destinations to ensure that you return from your short break feeling relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated.

Ballyhass Adventure Group

While Ballyhass Adventure Group may be home to some adrenaline pumping activities, like zip-lining and wake-boarding, the centre also has some great options for those looking to slow down the pace and relax. Start with a swim in the outdoor swimming pool or in the open water swimming area and relax on one of the provided bean bags by the lake. After your dip, head to the sauna pods to unwind.

After your day at Ballyhass, settle into The Arches Bar for a tasty meal – you’ll need something hearty after all that adventure! Nearby, you’ll find other great attractions to add to your getaway. Check out the stately Doneraile Estate, wander its grounds and get lost in its history.

Yoga Walks Ireland

With fresh air and peaceful scenery, your yoga experience becomes even more zen with Yoga Walks Ireland. During your next break in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, book a Yoga Walk on the foothills of the Galty Mountains, where you’ll learn proper poses and breathing techniques while taking in the picturesque Tipperary scenery.

To refuel after your Yoga Walk, grab a coffee and a tasty treat from the Praline Pastry Shop in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, a must-visit on a trip where you prioritise self-care. Choose from the selection of soups and sandwiches, and afterwards indulge in a slice of decadent cake. After all, enjoying a treat every now and then is part of wellness!

Drumhierney Woodland Hideaway

Drumhierney Woodland Hideway is a wellness haven surrounded by 100 acres of peaceful woodlands. Book a stay at one of the sanctuary’s unique lodges and make the most of Drumhierney’s incredible wellness amenities. Take in the beautiful surroundings as you relax into a seaweed bath, chill out in the hot tub, pop into the sauna or, to feel truly reinvigorated, book the Fire and Ice Experience.

After soaking up the very best of this outdoor sanctuary, head to the nearby Shannon Blueway for a walk or a cycle and enjoy refreshments at Jinnys Tea Rooms, which is open Thursday – Sunday.

The Hot Tub Boat

Take your relaxation to a whole other level by booking a cruise with The Hot Tub Boat. Climb aboard the boat, settle into your luxury hot tub, and prepare yourself for a cruise of the Lough Ree. Enjoy a daytime tour of the Lough Ree, of if you’d prefer, catch a sunset and feast your eyes on a sky full of stars with one of the evening options.

If you fancy getting the adrenaline pumping after slowing down here, check out Baysports, Ireland’s largest inflatable waterpark. Cap off a long day in Athlone by enjoying some great cuisine at the lakeside Wineport Lodge Restaurant.
