Turns Out Being “Boring” Together Is The Key To A Long Term Relationship

Being in a relationship comes with its perks, and while there’s a lot to be said for exciting days spent exploring, apparently it’s the days snuggled up on the couch watching Netflix that are really good for your relationship.

While we all want to be ‘social butterflies’ and not be deemed the couple that always stay in, an expert has said that couples should be “as boring as possible” and that doing those boring things will help your relationship last.

Mark Manson who is author of The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F**k spoke to Business Insider and said, “I think, if you look at a relationship, I actually think it should be as boring as possible.

“And that sounds really weird to people but if you think about it, a really happy 80-year-old couple that’s been together for 60 years, the reason that they’ve been together for 60 years, it isn’t because they took all these private jets and they had these crazy vacations and “Oh my God, look at their pictures.”

He added, “It’s because that they were able to be boring together. They are able to spend year after year, sitting around the house, talking about the same boring stuff, watching TV, watching movies, cooking dinner, and it went fine. There was nothing exciting, there’s nothing blowing up, there’s no huge drama, and dishes flying.”

Mark Manson said that while a lot of people don’t want to be classed as a boring person having that idea to be interesting can hinder relationships. He said, “Today, we’re so afraid of being seen to be boring that we’re sabotaging ourselves in our quests to find meaningful relationships without being willing to settle down.”

So there you have it, if you want to stick with your beau you should enjoy those lazy Sundays together that little bit more.
