Looking for a way to support those in Direct Provision this Christmas?

Fiona Frawley

The Christmas hype is coming in hard and fast this year, and you may be looking for ways to support families who otherwise may go without.

If you’d like to support families in direct provision this Christmas, DPD Donations are currently appealing for toys, sweets and clothing for asylum seekers, which can be dropped in to collection points across the country.

Direct Provisions Donations are a group looking to help asylum seekers under the Direct Provision system in Ireland, and their Christmas campaign has been running for the last few weeks. If you’d like to get involved there’s still time – their collection points across the country will close on various dates throughout December (check out their “Christmas 21” highlight on Instagram for specific closing dates).

The group are appealing for toys, teddies, board games, colouring/painting sets, gift sets, shower sets, chocolates/sweets and coats, hats and gloves in the lead up to Christmas. All items must be new and in good condition.

If you’re interested in donating any of the above, head to the DPD Donations Insta page to find your nearest drop-off point.

And if you’re looking to help families in Ireland in need of hygiene products, The Hygiene Bank Ireland are currently appealing for donations of €15 to provide bags filled with essential hygiene items to those struggling around Ireland this Christmas. You can donate €15 to cover the cost of a bag HERE. Donations are being accepted until the 30th of November – any received after this will be sent out to families in January.
