This sweet initiative allows volunteers to send Christmas gifts to those in Nursing Homes

A way to give back this festive season.

Christmas time is known for its gift-giving, amongst all the decorations, mince pies, and parties. However for some people, December can be a difficult time, even a lonely one, especially for those with little family or friends around them. If you’re looking to give back during the most wonderful time of the year, then this sweet initiative from Care Pack is the perfect thing.

Care Pack is a kindness initiative run by volunteers that connects nursing home residents with good samaritans who will send them a care package or gift over the festive season.

Over the last three years, 54,000 residents have been matched with volunteers, which means that 54,000 residents have had a gift on Christmas morning, where they otherwise might have had none.

Care Pack recommends the following items as what you could include as part of your gift:

  • Crosswords, sudoku,
  • Knitting tools
  • Playing cards
  • CDs
  • Jewellery
  • Blanket
  • Board games
  • Room decorations
  • Toiletries
  • Fluffy socks

If you’re interested in being matched with a nursing home resident, applications are already open for new volunteers.

You can find out exactly how to send your care package through here.
