A new rebate scheme is being developed to encourage people to holiday at home.
The Government is working on a ‘Staycation Subsidy’ as part of the July Stimulus Package in an effort to bolster the Irish tourism industry in the wake of Covid 19 lockdown.
The plan would see holidaymakers claiming cash back from their hotel and restaurant bills according to Herald.ie.
It is still unclear exactly how the rebates will be issued.
Other measures that were considered but have since been tabled included restaurant vouchers for consumers as well as VAT cuts.
A recent survey by SensorPro revealed that 80 per cent of Irish holidaymakers plan to travel in Ireland in 2020.
