Who’d have thought that rugby stars would be playing such a big role in getting accommodation sorted for Ireland’s frontline workers?

Last week, we brought you news of former Leinster back-row Sean O’Brien generously providing free accommodation for a pair of staff nurses in Dublin.

And now, Ronan O’Gara has used his social media presence to find a doctor a place to stay amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

When O’Gara found out that former teammate Tom Gleeson, who is now a doctor with the Health Service Executive, was in need of short-term accommodation in Cork city, he put the call out to his 400,000 Twitter followers.

And it wasn’t long after the legendary Munster out-half posted the tweet that he received a promising response.

Just a couple of hours after asking for help, O’Gara revealed that his doctor friend had been sorted out.

“Great teamwork,” O’Gara tweeted, while Gleeson praised the public support at a time when frontline workers need it most.

On Sunday, it was revealed that An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar had rejoined the medical register and will assist the frontline by working a session a week.
