Ireland’s improved road network in recent years means that people are zipping up and down the motorways of the country without realising the beautiful villages they are bypassing.
We’ve picked out nine of our favourite hidden gems that you won’t see on any of Ireland’s main roads.
Some gorgeous views and a couple of pubs is all you need, right?
1. Cong, Co. Mayo
Having played host to the star-studded Rory McIlroy wedding last week, this lovely village is now firmly on the map.Â
2. Caherdaniel, Co. Kerry
One of the most picturesque villages in the south west, nearby Derrynane is also worth checking out.Â

3. Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow
Home to Avondale Forest Park which has some of the best walking trails in the country.
4. Crecora, Co. Limerick
Located eight miles from Limerick city, this little village of 400 people is a hidden gem.

6. Cushendun, County Antrim
Cushendun is right at the north eastern tip of the island and is only 15 miles away from Scotland.Â
7. Dromahair, Co. Leitrim
If lakes and mountains are your thing, this is the place for you.Â
8. Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare
This harbour village is a perfect spot if you’re visiting The Burren.Â

9. Eyeries, Co. Cork
Famous for its multi-coloured rows of houses, this place is gorgeous on a sunny day.Â
