Right. We’ve only just gotten to grips with hot yoga, spin classes where the bikes move from side to side and the terrifying tangle that is TRX, when another fitness trend comes along.
The latest get-fit idea blows all the others out of the water, however. You can jump, run and crouch through military-style training scenarios, collect gold coins along a cartoon world or trek through a jungle – all without leaving the room.
How can you do all of this? Virtual reality baby.
Basically, it’s like the Matrix. The Omni by Virtuix is a 360° treadmill that hooks you up to a game of your choice, wearing runners that interact with sensors on the treadmill.
The device keeps track of your steps and calories so you can get a serious workout in all while fighting off baddies and playing games. Get bored running? Jog through dense forests or paradise beaches and leave your grim sitting room far behind.
This is going to be huge.
It’s pretty expensive (about €700 for the treadmill and a game) but if you find yourself getting bored working out this would be ideal. Oh, and you can workout from home.
