Lots Of People Were Annoyed About ‘Double Mistake’ On RTÉ’s 9 O’Clock News

For those of you who are avid GAA heads, you will know that the National Football and Hurling leagues are back in full swing and that the second round of matches took place over the weekend.

Mayo faced Kerry on Saturday night in Castlebar and despite their best efforts, lost by three points on a scoreline of 1-15 to 2-9 in favour of the Kingdom.

However, that news hadn’t travelled clearly enough up to the capital and when RTÉ Sports presenter, Dave Kelly, was doing a round up of Saturday’s action, he surprised and angered a lot of GAA fans while Mayo and Kerry fans were left double checking themselves.

In the report he states that: “Mayo have a 100% record after two games in the Allianz Football League (Nope). The defending champions Kerry (that is true, they did win it last year) had two players sent-off (also correct) in a three point defeat (incorrect).

Just goes to show that even the most basic mistake can change the entire outcome of a situation…

Wait! @rte just said that Mayo won, showed the video where Kerry won and then showed the score line (Ky 1-15: Mo 2-9) and said “confirmation of Mayo’s win”. WTF?

Why does the guy on @rtenews keep saying mayo won when they obviously didn’t and even though they showed highlights and a final score that shows Kerry win by 3 he insisted on saying ” and to confirm mayos win” ????

@rtenews seriously can you do your job. Twice in the news you have declared that mayo won when the lost. While the scoreboard clearly shows they lost. This is not the standard I expect from my tv licence

@rtenews. Can we go back over the results again for your 9.30 news report? Last I looked and going by your own VT clip @Kerry_Official beat Mayo, but the studio is adamant that they lost. Hmm.

The report was clarified towards the end of the bulletin and sure, after all, the man is only human.
