What exactly is the story with the tickets for nightclubs situation?

The introduction of the new guidelines for nightclubs and late night events have led to confusion among vintners and those looking to plan a night out alike. During the week, the government announced that nightclubs must be ticketed, with tickets to be purchased no later than an hour in advance. According to the Journal, a statement was issued stressing the tickets must contain details to allow for “robust contact tracing“.

According to the Journal, government officials met with pub and late night industry representatives yesterday to finalise plans for how venues should operate over the coming months.

The new ticket rules are in place from today, with venues expected to have a ticketing system in place and ready for events from tonight onwards. Industry representatives are believed to have requested a two week delay for the roll out of the new rules, as many do not yet have systems in place for ticket bookings.

Speaking to the Journal yesterday, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar acknowledged that there may be “teething problems” as the new rules come into place, and that everything will be kept under “constant review”. However, he stressed that the guidelines have been put in place to keep people safe.
