Simon Harris answers question on students “hooking up” as September campus return confirmed

James Fenton

It’s been a difficult time for everyone over the past year and a bit but spare a thought for the students who have missed out on a massive portion of their college experience.

Ya know, the first move away from home, the cheap drink deals, signing up for societies that you’ll never get involved and, well, the actual studying. Another aspect that might be overlooked is the college dating scene, where many youngsters meet their first love or endure their first heartbreak. Usually both, to be fair and that’s just first year.

Well, after 15 months of lacking in love, students could be able to get up close and personal as early as September. Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris has today announced that the Government is planning for a full return to on campus third-level education from September, with just “some aspects of online learning.”

It’ll be great news for Zoom-weary students who are fed up of being stuck in their box room and when asked the all-important question on whether they can “hook up” today, Harris said “he’ll check the plan for advice on that but no, the Government doesn’t have advice for their private life of students,” as per Richard Chambers of Virgin Media.

There’s bound to be some level of public health guidance issued ahead of the big return but that sounds like a positive development for budding couples. When you’re hitting the books in preparation for going back, be sure to work on those chat-up lines as well.
