Pet Owners Urged To Do This After Deadly Virus Outbreak Kills 6 Dogs

A deadly outbreak of parvovirus has sparked serious concern after killing six dogs in the past two weeks.

Dr Kathy Enright from Clare Street Vets is now urging dog owners to make sure that their pets are vaccinated as the outbreak continues.

So far six dogs in Limerick City have died from the disease out of 11 diagnosed cases.

It’s said to be spreading “like wildfire” and has a 90 per cent fatality rate.

Symptoms include severe vomiting, loss of appetite and bloody diarrhea.

Dr Enright told the Independent:

“If they present to us too far gone and lost a serious amount of blood, fluids and electrolytes then this disease can have up to a 90pc kill rate,” she said.

“Black and tan, Rottweilers and German shepherds are more susceptible. If we see them early, we can support them through the disease.”
