Ireland’s Unemployment Rate Is At Its Lowest For Nine Years

Ireland’s unemployment rate has dropped to 6.2%, the lowest since 2008, according to the Irish Times.

The Central Statistics Office released the encouraging figures today along with the below graph which indicates the continued decrease in national unemployment numbers. 

Some of the key points released in the summary include:

• In April 2017 the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.7% for males, down from 6.9% in March 2017 and down from 9.7% in April 2016.

• The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for females in April 2017 was 5.5%, down from 5.7% in March 2017 and down from 6.8% in April 2016.

• The seasonally adjusted number of males unemployed in April 2017 was 81,400. This is a decrease of 2,000 when compared to the March 2017 figure of 83,400. In April 2017 the seasonally adjusted number of females unemployed was 54,400, a decrease of 2,800 

• The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for persons aged 15-24 years (youth unemployment rate) was 12.9% in April 2017, a decrease from 13.7% in March 2017.
