Irish Women Work For Free From Today Until The End Of The Year

Sarah

It’s official ladies, today is the day that women across Ireland technically work for free until the end of the year.

For the next 51 days, it’s calculated that based on the gender pay gap, women would be working for free in comparison to men.

Designer Sonya Lennon, who founded the charity Dress for Success said: “In Ireland, the gender pay gap is approximately 14 per cent.  This means women in Ireland will effectively stop earning relative to men on 10th November this year.

“We’re designating 10th November as Equal Pay Day, and we’ll be announcing a range of activities tomorrow to draw attention to the gender pay gap over the coming month.”

RTE recently came under fire for wage discrepancies between male and female broadcasters.
