Wholegreen siopa has been transformed.

As of today 25th November, Wholegreen siopa and caife has reopened as Black Square café in Letterkenny.

Wholegreen siopa in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal has been an institution for its locals. The plant-based café and shop made all its food daily on the premises using only high quality seasonal ingredients, and was known as a spot to stop in for some breakfast, lunch, or snacks, particularly if you’re veggie or vegan. It was only recently that Wholegreen was nominated in three categories (Best Cafe, Best Sustainable Practices and Best Free From) at the Irish Restaurant Awards 2022.

However, despite “7 whole years of fun” owner Anna took to Instagram in August to say she was closing Wholegreen siopa. She expresses in her caption that despite loving the spot, she’s “burnt out and in need of a long break.” Before panic could truly set in however, Wholegreen announced they had instead found new owners for the premises, Michael and Mary, who have no transformed the recognisable Letterkenny shop into Black Square café.

The new owners took to socials last night 23rd November to announce that Friday would be there first day open. This is what they said of the opening of Black Square Café.

“Tomorrow we open our doors after a whirlwind few weeks. Tomorrow and Saturday will be two days that allows us to find our feet, provide delicious food, coffee and treats and set us up for the beginning of next week.”

You can pop into Black Square from 8am.
