Businesses in Market Square in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford have been hit by flash flooding as a result of recent bad weather.
Bad weather down in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford has hit local businesses hard – many of whom are only beginning to reopen after months of closure.
According to reports, a funnel cloud – often described by meteorologists as a precursor to a tornado – was spotted over Enniscorthy yesterday afternoon. Lasting for only 30 minutes, while it didn’t deteriorate and form into a tornado, it did bring extreme downpours and thunderstorms which lead to spot flooding in the area.
A number of local businesses were hit by flooding with a video shared on Twitter highlighting the extent of the damage caused. Showing water gushing into the premises of The Holy Grail restaurant on Market Square, water can be seen pouring into the building under the bottom of a closed-door – covering the entire inside floor in a matter of minutes.
Staff can be heard trying to deal with the problem, but with water entering the building that quickly, there’s very little that can be done.

Though the full extent of the damage is not yet known, this is the last thing that businesses need as they try to back up and running.
And it looks like the bad weather is set to continue today as Met Éireann this morning issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for seven counties. Valid from 8am until 2pm today, the warning covers Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan.
