Consistent with recent years, today’s Irish budget has targeted the smokers of the country with a packet of 20 cigarettes costing €12 from tomorrow.
There will be a pro-rata increase on all other tobaccos products while there was bad news for fans of fizzy drinks too as the government has introduced a sugar tax of 30 cent per litre on on drinks of 8 grams of sugar per 100ml.
Social Welfare payments will go up by €5 per week while the pension will get the same increase from March of next year.
Some good news was to be had as the price of a pint will remain the same.
