James Fenton

There could be as many as 50 new Lidl stores opening in Ireland in the near future.

Currently, there are 152 outlets in the Republic and 50 in the North.

In an interview with the Irish Independent, Lidl Ireland managing director John Paul Scally said:

“We’re not going to going to stop until we have a Lidl store in close proximity to everyone in the country.

“It will bring us to about 200 stores in total in the Republic of Ireland and a little bit under 50 in Northern Ireland.”

Lidl have also been trialling self-service checkouts at their Athy branch which could be rolled out to all their stores in the near future.
