If you’re looking for some entertainment as you put away your summer clothes and ease into the season of cancelling plans, you’re in luck. Sally Rooney’s hotly anticipated third novel, Beautiful World, Where Are You is out in bookshops today.

Since the release of her first novel Conversations With Friends in 2017, Sally Rooney’s been a hit with Irish bookworms. Her stories of love, longing and the unbearable pressure of trying to fit in are so painfully relatable that we’ve had no choice but to consume them with the same intensity we would an end-of-the-night portion of garlic cheese chips, and after the mega success of the tv adaptation of Normal People, we’ve spent the last year chomping at the bit for more.

Her new novel promises to give us everything we need, including the obligatory bit of steamy riding:

Alice, a novelist, meets Felix, who works in a distribution warehouse, and asks him if he’d like to travel to Rome with her. In Dublin, her best friend Eileen is getting over a break-up, and slips back into flirting with Simon, a man she has known since childhood.

Alice, Felix, Eileen and Simon are still young—but life is catching up with them. They desire each other, they delude each other, they get together, they break apart. They have sex, they worry about sex, they worry about their friendships and the world they live in. Are they standing in the last lighted room before the darkness, bearing witness to something? Will they find a way to believe in a beautiful world?

The release has been met with excitement by fellow Irish writers and book lovers alike, and we’ve no doubt it’ll give us all the passion and heartbreak we’ve been craving since finishing Normal People.
