Eighth Referendum Ads Will Be Banned on Google and Youtube From Tomorrow

Jen

Google has announced it will remove ads relating to the Eighth Amendment Referendum from tomorrow.

This follows Facebook’s decision to ban all ads relating to the upcoming referendum if the advertisers are based outside of Ireland.

Google, however, has taken a step further by removing all ads in the final weeks of the campaign and not just those originating outside of the state.

All of the search engine’s platforms will be included in the ban including Youtube and GoogleAdwords.

According to Independent.ie, it will not impact on search results or content.

A statement from Google said: “Following our update around election integrity efforts globally, we have decided to pause all ads related to the Irish referendum on the Eighth Amendment.”
