If you’re a Bank of Ireland customer, and you were planning on spending away the Monday Blues this afternoon, you may need to seek out a Plan B.
There’s an issue with the bank’s Visa debit cards, and it’s left customers across the country unable to make transactions in shops – or withdraw cash from ATMs.
Naturally, this has left several people rather frustrated…
Actually trapped at @goapplegreen Coz @bankofireland card doesn’t work and have no other way of paying. This is scary. @talktoBOI

@talktoBOI My card keeps being rejected when I’m going to pay for items – there is definitely money in my account. Any answers as to why?

Can you let customers know when services resume. It’s a very annoying problem

The bank says it’s aware of the problem and is working to resolve it
We’re aware of some technical difficulties with visa debit cards. Please be assured we’re looking into it, sorry for any inconvenience.

But, to some people at least, the news came as something of a relief…
