Cigarettes In Ireland Will Look Pretty Different From Now On

Sarah

Cigarette packaging in Ireland will now look very different, as Ireland has become the fourth country in the world to introduce plain packages for all tobacco products.

From now on, all packets will be removed of logos and other branding, and will be sold in a plain neutral colour with the brand name and variant written in small type at the bottom.

Packs will also feature a prominent health warning.

The Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Act was signed into law by President Michael D Higgins in March 2015.

Any products manufactured before the date of September 30th may be sold for another year, however all products will now be made according to new rules.

The new package measures aim to reduce people taking up smoking, and lessen the attractiveness of cigarettes.
