Thousands of people around the world have taken part in Darkness Into Light events from early this morning.
The event, now in its 10th year, was set up by Pieta House with the aim of raising suicide awareness as well as vital funds for the counselling services for people bereaved by suicide or with suicidal thoughts.
Here in Ireland, thousands walked or ran in solidarity…

Walked #DIL2018 with my sis @roemcdermott in beautiful Bray this morning. First time together. I think public awareness, empathy & ability to mobilise in support of each other has never been higher. The government has to play it’s part now, been negligent for too long. Onwards x pic.twitter.com/udZOIARYvd

Sadness in the Dark.
Strangers lit our Way.
Smiles from the Sidelines.
We Woke up and Walked.
For those we loved and Lost.
For those who can no longer Walk.
We turned and faced the Sun.
And Darkest Dusk turned to Dawn. #DIL2018 #dil2018 . @PietaHouse @bray_ie @dil_bray pic.twitter.com/P0Dj1EOG5O— ????????Ottalie Dwyer???????? (@Ottaliedwyer) May 12, 2018
