Enjoy The Sun Today —Heavy Rain Is Forecast For The Rest Of The Week

James Fenton

We’ve been a bit spoiled on the weather front in recent weeks so it seems only fitting that we’re about to get dumped with feckloads of rain.

Met Éireann are forecasting heavy rain for the rest of the week. To be fair, today doesn’t look too bad with scattered showers being the worst of it but it’s from tomorrow on where things get a bit grim.

Here’s what the experts are predicting for the rest of the week:

Monday

“Some sunny breaks at first in parts of the north and east but mostly cloudy today. Scattered outbreaks of rain mainly in the west and southwest will become persistent there during the morning, but staying mostly dry elsewhere. The rain will gradually spread northeastwards during the afternoon, with some heavy outbreaks and wet in most places through the evening. Top temperatures of just 14 to 16 degrees Celsius in light variable or southeast to east breezes which will increase moderate in places later.”

Tuesday

“Remaining heavy rain in eastern areas will clear away Tuesday morning and it will brighten up. Some sunny spells developing, but there will be heavy showers as well which will become widespread by afternoon with a risk of isolated thunderstorms. Highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees Celsius in light winds.”

Wednesday

“Some bright or sunny spells, but heavy showers at times also with a slight risk of isolated thunderstorms. Some more prolonged heavy rain is likely in eastern areas in the afternoon or evening and in many places overnight. Maximum temperatures of 15 to 19 Celsius, in mostly light breezes, but moderate or fresh breezes on some coasts, between northeast and northwest in direction.”

Thursday

“Rain or showers in many places on Thursday, but there will be good dry bright periods in some areas during the morning. Becoming breezy as northwest winds increase fresh and gusty and feeling cool in afternoon temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees Celsius.”

Friday

“Windy and very cool on Friday with widespread showers and some longer spells of rain at times in fresh to strong and gusty northwest to north winds and afternoon temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees Celsius. Possibly drying out later in the day.”

The weekend

“Still changeable over the weekend, with some rain at times. But indications suggest rainfall amounts will be smaller and overall it won’t be as wet or as blustery as on previous days, potentially warmer on Saturday but fresher again on Sunday.”
