Irish holidaymakers in Spain, Italy, Southwest France and Portugal should lather themselves in factor 50 this week as temperatures are predicted to rise into the high 30s and 40s.
Parts of the Algarve could reach 45C, a temperature which hasn’t been seen since 1977 in Athens.

The searing heat is due to hit later this week until early next week.
Inland areas will have the highest temperatures with coastal areas experiencing slightly cooler temperatures.
