The two days we had of summer this year feel like a distant memory now…

The forecasts for Ireland this summer have been laden down with bad news, featuring rain, rain, and more rain – and the odd thundery downpour for dramatic effect.

Contrasted with the record-breaking heatwaves mainland Europe has been experiencing, it’s hard to make sense of it all.

However, an Irish weather expert is now claiming that sunshine could be reappearing as soon as next week.

Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly said summer weather may return on Thursday, August 10th – but it won’t be around for very long.

He took to Twitter to share the good news with his followers last night, before confirming that come Friday the rain will reappear.

Alan said: “Summer could be on a Thursday this year.

“Latest ECMWF model update shows a very brief blast of warm air and sunshine next Thursday the 10th.

“However by the 11th heat and sunshine are gone.”

At this point, Met Eireann doesn’t have a detailed forecast for the end of next week, but they do predict: “Continuing changeable, but warmer and somewhat drier conditions are signalled, at least for a time, through midweek next week.”

We’ll keep you posted!
