Ex-Irish footballer Jonathan Walters appeared as a guest on The Late Late Show last night and had one of the most emotional interviews we’ve seen.
As a result there has been huge support from fans and viewers.
The footballer spoke to Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy about the heartbreak he suffered as an eleven-year old when his mother passed away tragically. He became very emotional when he spoke about it and admitted even though it was very hard to do so, he wanted to because he has seen such matters being considered ‘taboo’ throughout his life.
He also talked about the hardships he faced during his life such as his wife losing a baby, the death of his brother and his daughter being diagnosed with Scoliosis.
His public display of emotion struck a chord with the audience. He showed that it’s ok to show emotion, to still feel grief and to openly discuss and show vulnerability.
Such an important message.
What an inspiration!
After the show, many people took to Twitter to share their message of support:
John Walters a role model for everyone in country #latelate

John Walters great interview on the late late show in Ireland. The part about his mother passing away when he was 11 is heartbreaking and brings back memories of my dad passing away when I was 9. #JohnWalters
