A man in his 20s was shot dead in Belfast while cooking pancakes for children late yesterday evening.

The victim was answering a call to the door of the house in the Glenbawn Avenue area of Poleglass when the incident occurred at about 8pm.

Other family members, the man's partner and her children were in the property when the murder took place, The Irish Times reports.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery said: "At this time we are working to establish a motive for the attack and are appealing for anyone with information which may assist us with our inquiries to contact us."
