Are you as confused about bitcoin as we are?
Well, the Irish public will now be able to enter a bitcoin Lotto which gives them the chance to become multi millionaires.
The cyrptocurrency Lotto has been launched by Lottoland and its first draw is happening on Monday 18 December and takes place every day after that except on Sundays.
The draw is seeded at 1,000 bitcoins – which is worth around €14.2 million – and is based on a similar format to the Irish lottery.
You chose six numbers out of a pot of 49 and your odds of winning the new lotto stand at 14 million to 1.
According to the Euromillions website, the odds of winning the jackpot there are 1 in 139,838,160.
“Bitcoin is a worldwide phenomenon, and Lottoland is giving our customers the opportunity to get involved in the big league,” said Lottoland’s Irish country manager, Graham Roiss told The Irish Times.
The value of Bitcoin has surged massively over the last few months and while some believe that the currency is in bubble territory, Lottoland state that it is an exciting time for the Irish public:
“As the value of Bitcoin goes up, so does the value of the jackpot. That means higher winnings and more profit.”
There are also plenty of additional prizes to be won from the new bitcoin Lotto – if you manage to match two or more numbers, you will win a certain amount of money similar to the Irish Lotto and Euromillions.
The first draw takes place on Monday at 8.30pm and consumers can pay as little as €3.50 to enter.
