As Apple get ready to release the new iPhone XR, it’s no secret that they will start slowing down the other iPhones down the grade.
Apple have confirmed that they have already started to slow down the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 plus.
As well as this, the performance of the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will slow down and be subject to the new “performance management” feature that is currently being rolled out.
Even though, the iPhone X is only a year-old, it will now continue to slow down with the introduction of this feature.
The myth that the older iPhone models slow down was confirmed by Apple last year and they confirmed that they’ve been “throttling” the performance of iPhone 6 models and iPhone SE models since the announcement.
Updating to the new iOS 12.1 update will start this slowing down process on the newer phones.
But, if you want to update but don’t want the slowing down to occur, you can turn off the performance management feature which puts this into place.
In order to do this you must:
- Go to Settings
- Tap Battery
- Tap Battery Health
- Scroll down to the Peak Performance Capability subheading and tap Disable
Once this has been disabled, it cannot be enabled manually again just FYI and it is recommended that you should keep the feature on.
