Paddy Power are the kings of controversial stunts but this one is getting worse and worse with every week that passes.
So, after just one game of the Scottish Premiership – which Celtic won – the bookmakers decided to pay out on Celtic winning the thing overall, even though there was 98% of the season left to play.
So if you had a bet on Celtic to win the league, you got your winnings after just one game.
And let’s face it, it’s not really the person’s fault. Nobody thought it was that daft at the time. After all Celtic have won the Scottish League by a landslide for the last seven years in a row.
But, the commentator’s curse has taken over Celtic and they have gone on a terrible run since which has seen them lose two games and draw one.
They are sitting horribly in 6th place after a last-minute defeat to Kilmarnock today.

Why is this bad for Paddy Power? Because if someone else now wins the league, it means the bookmakers will have lost a substantial amount of money on another team winning the league while also having lost money to those who bet on Celtic.

This has happened before. Back in the 1994-95 season, Manchester United were sauntering to the title when a bookmakers decided to pay out with six games to go.
United bottled the run-in and ended up losing the title on the final day of the season to Blackburn.
