Sarah McInerney is set to replace Sean O’Rourke on RTE Radio One until the autumn as the company seeks a permanent replacement.

Veteran broadcaster Sean O’Rourke announced on his show today that he will be retiring in May with Sarah McInerney taking his seat, on a temporary basis at least. It is understood by Daniel McConnell of the Irish Examiner that McInerney is being lined up as a temporary replacement until the autumn.

McInerney currently works with RTE on a range of shows including Prime Time, Drivetime, and The Late Debate. She also regularly hosts The Tonight Show on Virgin Media One.

Since the news of O’Rourke’s departure broke, many social media users had called for McInerney to take his place and it seems they have gotten their wish.

Her predecessor has been working on Today With Sean O’Rourke since 2013.
