In what was the greatest achievement in her pro career thus far, Katie Taylor claimed the WBA Women’s Lightweight World Title in Cardiff last week after a fantastic victory over Anahi Sanchez.
And she wouldn’t be an Irish legend if someone didn’t claim her as British. In fact, it was only a matter of time before the world champion was claimed by the chancers across the pond, having already laid claim to the likes of Conor McGregor, Saoirse Ronan, Cillian Murphy and countless others.
In fact, earlier this year Jim White introduced Katie on Sky Sports News as someone looking to “add her name to Britain’s list of world champions by the end of the year”.
You’d think Sky Sports News would be mortified, yeah? You think they’d rectify the mistake, right?
Wrong.
A presenter for the station today proclaimed, “Britain has a new World Champion… Katie Taylor.”
