This Gripping Six-Part Netflix Documentary Is A Must Watch

Éadaoin Fitzmaurice

Time: The Kalief Browder Story was released on Netflix last month and has gotten the whole world talking. This harrowing 6-part series produced by Jay-Z is one of the most gripping documentaries to ever be released on the site.

The documentary tells the tragic story of Kalief Browder, a 16-year-old teenager from the Bronx who was locked up in Rikers Island jail, despite never being convicted of a crime. Browder was kept in jail for three years, where he was beaten and kept in solitary confinement.

This incredible story highlights the wrongs and corruption in the US penal system. However, the most powerful aspect is the moral triumph of this young man.

Though he was repeatedly being offered plea deals – which could have released him from the prison within months – he refused every time, insisting on his innocence, and that his case be heard.

The documentary is an incredible watch and should most definitely be next on your list.

You might need to have the tissues handy however!
