They say us Irish are a fighting breed and this story proves just that.
Footballer Greg Cunningham, who plies his trade over in England for Preston North End, unfortunately fractured a leg in Easter Monday’s clash with Norwich City.
Quite a serious injury for a professional footballer, you would think. The Galwegian is made of stern stuff however, and incredibly tried to play on.
After the game, the 26-year-old’s manager Simon Grayson said:
“Greg’s got a fracture to his leg which means he’ll be out for the rest of the season, but hopefully he’ll be back for pre-season.
“He’s a top a lad and tried to carry on. A brave, brave player, one of the best players that I’ve signed at this football club and it’s unfortunate that this incident has happened.”
Cunningham, who has four senior Republic of Ireland caps has been widely praised online with fans of Ireland, Preston and even those with no affiliation acknowledging his bravery:
Greg Cunningham…..what a warrior. Goes down with a broken leg and gets up to try and run it off. Lads an absolute hero!! #pnefc

This isn’t the first time Cunningham has suffered a horrific injury as he fractured his tibia playing for Leicester City in 2011.
It seems it’ll take a lot more than this to keep Greg Cunningham down. He’s a better man than us.
