WATCH: Man United’s latest signing has been singing the praises of Roy Keane

Bruno Fernandes hasn’t taken long to endear himself to Manchester United fans on the pitch and with quotes like this about the club’s former captain, his popularity will only increase.

Having joined the Old Trafford club on January 30, Bruno Fernandes only had time to play nine games before English football shut down due to Covid-19. However, in that time he had an instant impact as United remained unbeaten with the Portuguese midfielder chipping in with three goals.

The 25-year-old appears to have brought an increased level of focus the Red Devils midfield and that’s no surprise when you consider how much he is influenced by one of the greatest United midfielders of them all.

During a Q & A with the club’s official website, Bruno was asked by an Irish fan if he’d prefer to play alongside Keane or Paul Scholes, to which he responded by showering praise on both players but the Corkman in particular.

He said: “If you look at Roy Keane, he’s the kind of player all teams need. All the teams can have him. It doesn’t matter if you play in possession or on the counter, you need a guy like this normally. I think Roy Keane is an excellent player and he can give me a lot of cover in the back.”

High praise indeed. It’s often wondered if Keane’s talents were ever appreciated on the continent as much as they were in the UK and Ireland but his game certainly seems to have had an effect on one kid growing up in Portugal at least.

If Fernandes keeps following Roy’s lead, United are sure to be in good shape whenever they get back on the pitch. You can check out the interview here with the Keane comments starting just before the 12-minute mark.
