Aldi revealed as Ireland’s ‘most eco-friendly company 2019’

Big day for the supermarket.

The results are in –Aldi is Ireland’s most eco-friendly company for 2019.

Receiving the news on Tuesday, it was revealed at the Checkout National FMCG Awards.

Beating out stiff competition, the awards aim to celebrate excellence amongst other things.

A number of factors were considered when crowning the most eco-friendly company for the year,  including the retailer’s new packaging pledges.

The supermarket has vowed to ensure that 100 per cent of its own-label packaging will be recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2022. Promising also to halve packaging in own-brand products by 2025.

Judges for the FMCG Awards were impressed the commitment to introducing sustainable supply chain initiatives, noting that Irish retailers are continuously ahead of the curve.

Having recently announced a line of compostable and recyclable shopping bags, the supermarket is leading by example when it comes to environmental matters.
