Police Called After J1 Students In Chicago Destroy House During Wild Party

Sarah

A group of about 15 male Irish J1 students have been allegedly causing havoc on a quiet Chicago street this summer, with their actions coming to a head last Wednesday when police were called by neighbours.

According to DNA Info Chicago, police were called in the early hours of Thursday morning to the house on Logan Square after reports of the group “on a rampage”, smashing almost every window in the building, throwing furniture and threatening neighbours.

One neighbour said that the house had turned into a “a straight-up frat house — ‘Animal House,'”, with the students partying constantly and disturbing the peace of the street.

The property’s owner reportedly knew the house was being sublet, but was not aware that it was to a group of young men on student visas.

Photographs on DNA Info show the extent of the damage to the property, as well as video footage taken by a neighbour which shows one Irish student threatening him with a brick after he realised the neighbour was filming the scene.

“It’s just awful and intimidating seeing like 12 people there drinking, being obnoxiously loud, piles of trash. It’s not a welcoming feeling,” the neighbour said.

“It’s really scary when you see 12 people being violent in your neighborhood. Whether it’s just fooling around or actual intent to destroy something, you get the same feeling, which is: ‘Something’s not right.'”

The group will reportedly have to be out of the house by the end of the month, as the building has been listed for demolition by developers.

The good news for neighbors is that the group has to be out by the end of the month because the building is slated for demolition.
