Warning As Moth Infestations In Ireland Grow By 198% In Last Three Months

Homeowners have been warned today that the number of moths in Ireland are on the rise, with pest control company Rentokil reporting a 128% rise in the number of reported moth infestations in the first three months of the year.

Ireland’s improved weather conditions over the last while have been blamed for the rise, as the more humid weather has offered “ideal breeding condition for moths”. 

Apart from being a bit gross, moths can also can cause serious damage to carpets, curtains and upholstery. 

Once an infestation takes hold in a wardrobe, moths can also damaging clothes and fabrics.

“When spring cleaning, it’s important to make sure you get into the cracks and crevices to get rid of pests. Once inside the home, moths lay eggs in dark and rarely disturbed areas where clothes and other textiles are stored,” said Dr Colm Moore.

High risk areas in the home include spare rooms, under beds, infrequently used wardrobes and attics, where moths are attracted to discarded bird nests.”
