Long lost beaches magically returning, bringing a soft sandy stretch that hasn’t been seen in years might sound like something from folklore, but that’s exactly what happened on the island of Achill this week.
Ashleam Bay is the second rediscovered beach to come to Achill this year, after Atlantic waves brought back a beach that hadn’t been seen in over 30 years.
The Irish Times writes that local legends said that the Ashleam Bay would return every seven years, although Achill Tourism manager has said he hasn’t seen it since 2005, and even then it was just for a few weeks before it disappeared back into the ocean.
