Ryanair’s new baggage rules were just announced this week and we were all fairly delighted to hear that it would be saving most people a bit of money.
The airline confirmed it would give a free 10kg check bag to all two million non-priority customers who booked before 31 Aug, to travel after 1 November.
All these passengers have had the €8 cost of their priority boarding refunded but Ryanair will still allow them to travel with priority boarding free of charge.
But it appears that this news comes with a glaring flaw that we should have seen coming.
If everyone is using the priority queue to board the plane, well, it’s not really a priority queue any more.
Now that @Ryanair has forced us to pay if we want bring a cabin bag and another small bag,the queue for Priority boarding is ridiculously long. pic.twitter.com/gS9AHBDMlW

Unsurprisingly, people don’t seem too happy about it…
Priority queue longer than regular queue for @ryanair flight. Economics of “priority boarding” are breaking down… pic.twitter.com/k1w9vOAl5L

Due to Ryanair’s new rules the priority queue is now substantially longer than the non-priority queue. pic.twitter.com/gdxRTxnStV
