Perfect for a soak on those sweltering days in the midlands.

When a heatwave like the one we enjoyed last week hits Ireland, the bulk of the nation flocks to the beaches and coastal swim points, desperate for a chance to cool off and frolic in the refreshing waves.

But with midland areas usually in for warmer temperatures than their coastal counterparts, it’s important to have inland options for a dip too, to enjoy while soaking up all the beauty these counties have to offer.

Enter Ballinakill Outdoor Pool, which is set to open to the public later this month.

The heated outdoor pool located just outside Abbeyleix is run by local volunteer group the Ballinakill Community Development Association, and will open seasonally from June to September.

The pool is located beside angling ponds and a new playground, with Heywood Gardens and woodlands close by too making it an ideal destination for a full and varied day out with family or pals.

Family season passes are available for €195 for up to two adults and four children from the same family, and individual season passes are €100 for both adults and children.

The pool will open officially on Friday, 16th June. More information on opening times, events and tickets will be available on the Ballinakill Outdoor Pool website soon.
