Storm Dennis is on the way and Met Eireann has this afternoon issued two status yellow weather warnings for the whole Ireland which will take hold on Saturday.
Firstly, a status yellow rain warning has been issued, with Storm Dennis expected to bring ‘spells of heavy, locally thundery rain, on Saturday that will lead to some flooding.’ The forecast for Saturday adds that ‘the influence of storm Dennis will be felt on Saturday with the storm centre between Iceland and Ireland. There will be very heavy rain countrywide with flooding in places, strong and very squally south or south to southwest winds with gales or strong gales on coasts.’
The rainfall warning will be valid from 6am until 9pm on Saturday.

As well as that, a status yellow national wind warning has been issued with Met Eireann saying there will be ‘very squally southerly winds veering southwesterly with mean speeds 50 to 65 km/hr gusts to around 100 km/hr, strongest on exposed coasts and hills. The wind warning will be valid between 3am and 8pm on Saturday. Storm Dennis arrives just a week after Storm Ciara and if it brings anything like the weather we saw last Sunday, we’re in for a rough ride.
It might be a day for the sofa, folks. More information about Met Eireann’s warnings for Storm Dennis can be found here.
