A Garda investigation has been launched after a digger was used in a burglary attempt at a McDonald’s restaurant in Castletroy, Co. Limerick.

The incident occurred at around 2.50am on Tuesday and led to damage to the windows and door of the premises. The burglary attempt comes while an attack on a Lidl store in Fortunestown, Dublin is still fresh in the memory.
Nothing was stolen during the incident and Lidl offered its sympathy to McDonalds with a good-humoured tweet.
